Full Time

Over the last 35 years, we’ve worked hard to build The Chef’s Garden. It’s a unique niche - home to creativity, innovation, a commitment to excellence, and some of the best produce in the world.

What started as a small family farm has grown to include many more people - still family nonetheless. We’re humbled that you’d consider joining us in the work that we do.   The Soil Building Co-worker is responsible for participating in fulfilling orders submitted to the Soil Building Manager including operating equipment, blending mixes, and organizing supplies.

The position of a Soil Building Co-Worker s an important position in our operations. Every plant we grow begins with good soil and this position helps us begin the growing process.  The ideal candidate for this position is great at following directions and procedures. It’s an ideal position for someone who likes to be active throughout their work day as you’ll be primarily on your feet. You should be able to lift up to 50 pounds - things like bags of soil, peat moss, fertilizer and trays. While you’ll have protective clothing, you should know that you’ll regularly be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  You must have a valid driver's license as you may be needed to drive a vehicle, forklifts and other equipment.

In return, you’ll receive all of the basics: medical and voluntary insurance benefits, paid holidays and PTO, and a 401k. This is a full-time, year-round position with a work schedule Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. On top of that, we offer profit sharing, access to our produce (don’t blame us if you become a foodie), opportunities for professional growth and development, and casual dress all year-round - we’re not stuffy folk.

While things on the farm can look different almost every day, here’s what some day-to-day responsibilities may look like:

  • Assist in maintaining adequate product supplies, prevent shortages and evaluate overages and shortages.
  • Constantly look for ways to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency in your area.
  • Prepare soil as directed, following instructions for blending recipes and mixes with proper weights and measures.
  • Follow proper procedures for ventilation, humidity control, watering, etc.
  • Help with the seeding process when needed.
  • Operate, calibrate, and clean equipment including flat washer, mixers, seeders, forklift, pallet jack, tractors/wagons, etc.  Report facility maintenance and equipment issues to Supervisor or Operations Manager in a timely manner.
  • Drive, load, and deliver supplies to and from locations across the farm.
  •  Maintain cleanliness of supplies, follow good agricultural practices and food safety standards.
  •  Cross train when appropriate.
  •  Receive and unload contents of trucks.
  •  Keep work area clean, neat, and safe. Report any safety issues to supervisor.
  • Use problem solving techniques as part of continuous improvement
  • Assist with organization of materials and supplies for efficient production.
  •  Perform any other duties necessary to meet job responsibilities.

If you’re interested in joining the Chef’s Garden family, please submit your application. We’re excited to talk about the ways you might best fit here on the farm.
